The Hideaway

Quiet, green, and entirely your own

The Hideaway is a duplex set in a working coconut and mango grove on the Hummingbird Highway, about eight miles inland from the Caribbean Sea.

Two separate one-bedroom apartments, each with its own kitchen and air-conditioned bedroom. Above them, a thatched palapa bar with a splash pool with jacuzzi jets, looking out over the Maya Mountains.

The duplex stands 500 feet back from the road on 56 private acres, with the building and parking enclosed in their own fenced compound behind a coded gate. Your car and your door are secure; the land around you is not.

And for all that quiet, the village store is an easy walk from the entrance. Far enough back to hear nothing but birds, close enough to stroll down for a cold drink.

Mornings are parrots and howler monkeys. Evenings are the sun going down behind the ridge. There is nothing you have to do here, which is rather the point.

Getting Here

8 Mile Hummingbird Highway

The Hideaway sits at Mile 8 of the Hummingbird Highway in Hope Creek, in the Stann Creek District — about fifteen minutes from Dangriga and a couple of hours from Belize City.

Fly into Belize City (BZE) and drive the Hummingbird, or take the short hop to Dangriga. The drive over the mountains is one of the prettiest in the country, so give yourself time for it.

Once you are here you can leave the car parked inside the gate. The village store is a short walk from the entrance, and Hope Creek village just beyond it — so a run for groceries or a cold drink does not need a drive.
